Description Although the Solar Water Heater industry in South Africa has been established for more than 20 years, and SWHs are economically, technically and environmentally sound technologies, there is still low market penetration. This article highlights some of these factors, including available technologies, cost recovery and low income domestic market target. In the light of the low income domestic market, the article argues that without suitable financing there is no hope that SWHs will fill their rightful place in the national energy picture.
