Description Editorial review of the growing problem of kerosene (paraffin) poisoning of children, reporting that (at that time) at least 16,000 children were hospitalised for paraffin poisoning, with the rate three time higher in rural than urban areas. The problem is worst during the summer months, and affects mostly children aged 1-3 years. Educational approaches alone are not effective, and a partnership approach involving consumers, producers and public health officials is required. The production of child-resistant containers is viewed as a priority.
